- the POUNDBURY
ROBOT SOCIETY is a parafactual membership society engaged
in participatory placemaking for the techno-historicist village
conurbation of Poundbury in Dorsetshire.
Built in the
last decade, the village of Poundbury looks hundreds of years
old. It is a remarkable place offering many creative possibilities
for imaginations displaced across the realms of time and technology
From its greco-roman
substation (featured on the Poundbury Robot Societ logo),
to its Tuscan granary, Georgian town houses and Victorian
car parks, it is a site that present the pinnacle of techno-futurist
control of destiny. Its energetic triumphanlism reminds members
of the Poundbury Robot Society of the physics equation that
measures work (and 'robot' is a word meaning worker).
Power
is distance times time.
Robots downsize
too. And for this reason Poundbury offers many homecomings.
And so, it is the core mission of the Poundbury Robot Society
to
draw on the accumulated techno-futurist perspectives of industrial
worker units to creatively address the significance of temporal
and spatial displacement in imaginative identity and collective
mythologys.
