‘TRIANGLE ISLAND’ DIY WALLPAPER

coffee reception, Saturday 8th September 2pm

John Hartley is interested in how one tiny bit of South London can be dependent on so many locations around the globe. Sergios sells food from around the world and has customers with families and backgrounds from all continents. How might this bit of South London might look in the future?

John has been spending lunchtimes in Sergios talking to the customers and the owners to make this wallpaper. 'Sometimes it feels like Crystal Palace's Triangle [the three central streets of the area] is an island with arrivals from as far as the eye can see and beyond’. In fact if water levels rise sufficiently, Crystal Palace might well be the only land as far as the eye can see. The finished wallpaper imagines these connections to show the Triangle as an island in a rising sea of interdependence.

It seemed appropriate to make the wallpaper with materials and tools available to anyone marooned in The Triangle. You too can download and print your own homemade wallpaper over the World Wide Web. Go to www.cybersignals.org (external link)
