Transition
Initiatives (lots of examples here)
address this question:
"for
all those aspects of life that this community needs in order
to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase
resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically
reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate
Change)?"
One of
the most surprising and encouraging aspects of Transition
Initiatives is that they are grown with local skills and interest.
It can be amazing to discover just how skilled the people
are who you might have previously ignored in the street, or
never met at all.
The sort
of activities Transition Initiatives engage in might include
food security, energy efficiency of homes, shopping locally
and local currency, skill swaps (such as knitting circles),
permaculture... If there is an issue you feel strongly about,
perhaps a Transition Initiative is the right way of sharing
your thinking about it.
